PART 61 VS PART 141
WHICH PATH IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
When it comes to flight training, choosing between Part 61 and Part 141 is an important decision. At Azure Aviation Academy, we are a Part 61 flight school, and we believe this pathway offers unique benefits for students who want to complete their training efficiently, affordably, and with a high level of personalized instruction.
PART 61
Part 61 offers flexible, personalized flight training, allowing students to progress at their own pace with tailored lessons. Unlike Part 141, which follows a structured curriculum, Part 61 adapts to each student's learning style, ensuring a more individualized and effective training experience.
Faster Completion Time
With a more flexible schedule, we can accommodate your personal availability and adapt to your learning pace, allowing for a quicker path to certification.
Lower Program Cost
We provide an efficient and streamlined flight training experience without the additional costs that often come with the rigid structure of Part 141 programs.
Personalized Training
Our instructors work with you individually, ensuring that your training is tailored to your needs. This often leads to better progress and faster mastery of flying skills.
PART 141
Part 141 follows a structured, FAA-approved curriculum with more oversight, making it ideal for students pursuing formal pathways like the R-ATP. It provides a more rigid training environment but is often preferred by those aiming for airline careers.
Higher Federal Oversight
The increased oversight by the FAA ensures that Part 141 schools meet strict standards, providing students with a well-regulated and consistent training environment. This typically removes a great level of flexibility from flight training.
R-ATP Eligibility (1000 or 1250 Hours Minimum)
While Part 141 offers eligibility for the Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (R-ATP), it may not be as beneficial for students not pursuing a career with an airline, as it requires following a specific flight training path and meeting additional flight hour requirements.
Structured Training Curriculum
The rigid structure of Part 141 may feel restrictive to students who prefer a more flexible, personalized training schedule. Our programs training outlines are designed to mirror the courses of Part 141 programs, without the rigidity, allowing for a more adaptable training experience.

Part 61 Can Absolutely Lead to a Professional Pilot Career
At Azure Aviation Academy, we’ve seen countless students go on to successful careers in aviation after completing their training through Part 61. You don’t need an R-ATP to become a professional pilot—our students often finish their flight training faster and at a fraction of the cost compared to those in Part 141 programs.
If you are currently enrolled in a Part 141 program and are thinking of making the swap to explore a different path, switching to Part 61 might be the right choice for you. You can complete your private pilot certificate with us and still earn your bachelor’s degree in Professional Aviation, though you won’t be eligible for the R-ATP.
Whether you’re starting your flight training or finishing it, Azure Aviation Academy can provide you with the support and expertise you need to become a successful pilot.
